I am from Sandnessjøen, a small town in the north of Norway.
I was born there in 1977. My musical career started at the age of nine when I started playing the cornet in Alstahaug School Band. I learned a lot playing with them – and I learned even more through Alstahaug School of Music, NMF (Norwegian Band Federation), Toneheim School of Music and Tromsø Musical College. I finished my BA in music and instrumental teaching in 2003 with Arne Björhei as my teacher. I also studied composing and arranging with Bjarne Isaksen and Jørgen Mortensen.
After finishing my studies I moved to Stykkishólmur, Iceland, to work as a brass teacher and band director. After a year I was hired by NMF and the Field Band Foundation to teach and consult field-bands in South Africa.
After an exciting adventure in South Africa I moved back to Stykkishólmur, but only for four years. 2009-10 I worked as headmaster in Alstahaug and Leirfjord School of Arts. 2010-11 I worked as a band conductor and brass teacher in Namsos School of Arts.
I returned to Iceland in 2011 and I now teach brass at Stykkishólmur School of Music and conduct the schools two wind bands.
Greetings Martin. Do you remember me? KZN Phil 2005. Please email me your address if you can.
